Alisha Thomas Searcy made history by becoming the first African-American to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives for Cobb County—metro-Atlanta’s third largest county. Searcy was elected to six terms, serving on the House’s Education, Appropriations, and Health & Human Services committees. She is a Spelman College graduate and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Searcy also attended Kennesaw State University where she earned her master’s of education in Educational Leadership. She also completed two prestigious superintendent training programs—the Broad Superintendents Academy and the Future Chiefs program—and previously secured a Level 5 Georgia Superintendent Certificate from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Searcy co-authored the state’s constitutional amendment that created Georgia’s State Charter Schools Commission and was appointed by former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, to a bipartisan working group on K-12 education. Additionally, she served as Superintendent of Schools at Ivy Prepatory Academies where her leadership contributed to improved state performance scores and teacher retention rates. Searcy is now the CEO of her own education leadership consulting firm, AT Morgan Enterprises, coaching board of education members and school leaders, serving as a school-level turnaround expert, and using her public speaking skills as a keynote and panelists for numerous education focused organizations. Searcy has been featured as a subject-matter expert in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Georgia Trend, Marie Claire, Ebony, and Essence and on CSPAN. She is married to retired Georgia State Trooper Carlos Searcy. Searcy’s vast education and legislative experience bring a unique perspective and skill set to the Georgia First team.
