Governing with Principle and the Facts, Not Political Performance
Praise for Georgia leaders who choose integrity
April 9, 2025
As the founder and executive director of Georgia First, I want to publicly express our support, following the 2025 legislative session, for Georgia’s elected officials who continued to act in line with the values of the majority of Georgians who seek secure and accessible elections. I applaud their continued leadership and integrity, especially concerning House Bill 397. Contrary to recent public comments and social media posts made by individuals and leaders of fringe groups, regarding 2025 elections administration bills, state leadership has acted in in the best interests of all eligible Georgia voters.
We reject the misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric that suggests legislative action or alleged inaction taken by leadership this session “silenced the will of the people.” Such statements ignore the fundamental truth that this “will” comes from a marginal fringe group, rather than most Georgians. Additionally, democracy is undermined when legislation is rushed, rewritten behind closed doors, or passed without proper research and oversight.
Public claims of a “radical reversal” or a “failure of leadership” ignore the very real dangers of advancing poorly crafted election policies based on disproven and misleading allegations propagated by hyperpartisan groups and those who continue to push debunked conspiracies. Legislation driven by political pressure or schemes, rather than sound, bipartisan policymaking, does not serve our state.
Georgia First’s mission focuses on three key areas, one of which is defending democracy and advancing election integrity. This means we advocate for measured, fact-based reforms instead of reactionary legislation that undermines public trust in our election system and institutions year after year.
Georgia voters, regardless of party affiliation, deserve genuine reforms rooted in facts, not fears. Georgia First will continue to support elected officials from both parties who demonstrate courage, collaboration, and a commitment to all eligible Georgia voters, not just those who align with their preferred party or embrace these fringe group beliefs.
Today, I challenge more of my fellow Republicans to speak up and take action. The time for ignoring misinformation or dismissing inflammatory rhetoric as simply attention-seeking tactics from a vocal minority is over. In today’s digital media landscape, where information spreads in real-time, silence fuels these fringe theories. Faced with a lack of accurate information, otherwise objective Georgians are left to wade through unfounded conspiracies that seed doubt in our democratic processes.
